The ArtsCenter’s Artist in Residence (AIR) Program
Overview 2023-2024

The Artist in Residence (AIR) program is an arts education program that integrates the arts into
the grade level curriculum to further strengthen student’s learning, engage and empower students
through creative educational experiences, while helping each student to reach a fuller potential.

The AIR program serves four Title I “Focus” schools: Grady Brown, Central, New Hope and Efland
Cheeks Elementary.

All grade levels at each of the Focus schools are given two arts-based offerings- a five day in
person residency with a professional teaching artist, and an opportunity to see a live performance
by a professional theater company.

During the 5-day artist residency, the professional teaching artists introduce various art forms
such as computer graphics, electronic music, ceramics, mime, dance, music, drumming,
storytelling and poetry which celebrated friendship and encourage students to embrace both
their similarities and especially their differences. These art experiences help the children foster
a sense of empathy and understanding. They explore their imaginations and creative ideas
while building confidence and connections through positive, creative educational lessons. The
teaching artists for this school year include Briama Moiwai, Charles Pettee, Heather Pike, Jason
Abide, Jason Mullinax, Rosendo Pena, Tamala Boone, Virginia Queen Danford and Willa
Bringham.

During the school show performances, the Children’s Theater of Charlotte (CTC) tours 2
assemblies, one K-2nd grade assembly and one 3rd-5th grade assembly, at the schools. All
teachers will be given an educational supplement by CTC with additional lesson plan ideas to
integrate into the curriculum and prepare the students for the performance.

AIR 2023-2024 Budget Planning

Program Costs
School Show Performance Assemblies
Children’s Theater of Charlotte (CTC) Touring Assemblies

Grady Brown Elementary
K-2nd Grade Assembly $1000
3rd- 5th Grade Assembly $1000

Efland Cheeks Elementary
K-2nd Grade Assembly $1000
3rd- 5th Grade Assembly $1000

Central Elementary
K-2nd Grade Assembly $1000
3rd- 5th Grade Assembly $1000

New Hope Elementary
K-2nd Grade Assembly $1000
3rd- 5th Grade Assembly $1000

DocuSign Envelope ID: C2B96527-299D-49EA-8500-E9B9FFD1E6BF
