Organization <br />Description <br />The McDougle Elementary School PTA (MES PTA) provides a link between <br />school, home, and the wider community. W e work together to organize <br />events and raise funds to support children’s learning and to make the <br />environment for our students the best it can be. Our mission statement is to <br />"make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families <br />and communities to advocate for all children." <br />The MES PTA board consists of 19 members. The executive committee <br />includes the president, vice president, vice president 2, vice president 3, <br />secretary, and treasurer. All parents, caregivers, teachers, and members <br />of the MES community are invited to join the PTA. The PTA serves the <br />entire student body which consists of 518 students, 268 who are male and <br />250 who are female. The demographics of the student body are as follows: <br />1 American Indian or Native Alaskan, 25 Asian, 82 Black or African <br />American, 284 W hite, 88 Hispanic/Latino, 38 multi racial. <br />The MES PTA supports the arts programs at our school in many ways, <br />including but not limited to: <br />1) Sponsoring the annual 4th grade face jugs project, <br />2) Sponsoring (with generous support from the OCAC) the annual 5th grade <br />poetry residence program, <br />3) Organizing and funding the annual PTA Reflections contest in which <br />students are encouraged to submit art in one of the following six categories <br />to enter a national competition: literature, visual arts, music composition, <br />photography, dance choreography, and film production, <br />4) Sponsoring and funding assemblies for the student body, including this <br />past year's assembly featuring the "Number Drummer" who combines visual <br />arts and math through drumming, <br />5) Organizing our school's after school choir club, <br />6) Putting on a winter market featuring the sale of goods from local artists, <br />7) Inviting multiple performance artists, such as a Native American dance <br />troupe, to our school for multi-cultural night, and <br />8) W e are currently in the planning phase of installing a mural on the <br />exterior wall of our gymnasium. <br />Has your <br />organization <br />undergone any <br />Diversity, Equity, and <br />Inclusion (DEI) <br />training? In previous years, the MES PTA has sponsored DEI <br />training and events for its members and the McDougle Elementary School <br />Community, such as by bringing in guest speakers from https://www.weare- <br />nc.org/, as well as coordinating with the McDougle Elementary School staff <br />and administration to offer anti-racism training to MES parents and <br />guardians. <br />During the 2022-2023 school year, MES brought in speaker Dr. Brittany <br />Murray, a professor at Davidson College, to discuss her research on <br />school racial inequality and how parent organizations at schools can help <br />or hinder academic progress of racial minorities. <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: 0D7BF09D-6A98-46CC-9BF1-DD2736A194D2
