Community Impact In an enthusiastic response to our open call for our first two Radicle
Residents, BASEMENT received 40 applications from local artists with
diverse art practices at various stages of their careers. Many of these
applicants wrote about the scarcity and dire need for studio spaces,
funding, and exhibition venues for sharing their work with their community.
BASEMENT had conceived of the Radicle Residency to address these
urgent needs. BASEMENT provides a large and attractive studio space to
the Radicle Resident in a private, safe, and comfortable setting. The entire
space will be available for their solo exhibition following their month-long
studio time. W ith funds raised from the 2022 BASEMENT x Peel
fundraising auction and art sale, we are able to give each of our Radicle
Residents a generous $1650 stipend for their time and effort: an
honorarium of $1250, plus a $400 materials stipend.
W e will continue the Radicle Residency program into the future. W e
believe that this residency, with its combination of studio space, funding,
curated exhibition and events, fills a vital need for such opportunities in
Orange County. W e were impressed by the quantity and quality of artists
who responded to our open call. They ranged from newly emerging artists
to seasoned practitioners, coming from many different fields and personal
backgrounds, all with Southeastern roots. An important part of
BASEMENT's mission is to provide curatorial support, space, funding, and
a discerning audience for the many committed and risk-taking artists in our
region.
W e estimate that between 20-50 local artists and community members will
attend each of the planned events, which includes opening receptions,
artist talks, and performances
DocuSign Envelope ID: 423EEBF4-9342-4216-850F-20270E2D347E
