10.Please briefly describe the proposed program, including an explanation of how it aligns
with the Town of Chapel Hill and Carrboro’s Results Framework, and Orange County
BOCC Goals and Priorities, and the target population to benefit from the program.(250
words or less)
While all families were affected by the pandemic, traditionally underserved and
underrepresented children were affected the greatest. Kidzu aims to serve those most
affected by offering free organizational memberships and camp scholarships to community
groups serving Orange County’s population, allowing families who are a part of these
groups to visit the museum and/or attend educational camps at no cost. Kidzu will also
continue offering reduced ticket rates for EBT/SNAP recipients through our participation in
Museums for All, an Institute of Museum and Library Services initiative. Upon visiting the
museum, community members who would not usually have access to educational
opportunities can enjoy our exhibits, Makery (our STEAM based maker-space), and
culturally competent, multilingual/multicultural programs and activities developed in
coordination with local organizations, such as El Centro and the Refugee Support Center.
Additionally, we performed a library audit and are steadily adding more culturally diverse
books.
Families benefiting from free opportunities and discounted ticket rates will be living
at/below the poverty line and/or from targeted underserved and underrepresented minority
groups. These initiatives align with the Orange County BOCC goals and priorities to “ensure
a high quality of life and lifelong learning that champions diversity, education at all levels.”
Funding will allow us to continue offering free and discounted opportunities to
underserved/underrepresented individuals and those living at/ below the poverty line, so that
they can access our robust, multicultural/multilingual, and educational exhibits and
programs.
11.Target Population:Please complete the table below with numbers (not percentages)
of individuals served and projected to be served.
Program Target Population Demographics
Project
ed
2021-20
22
Actual
2021-20
22
Projected
2022-202
3
Project
ed
2023-20
24
Gender
Men 1119 1174 1,245
Women 1119 1175 1,246
Nonbinary/Genderqueer
Self-Describe
Total *N/A 2,238 2,349 2,491
Race and Ethnicity
Program informationPage 14 of 31
DocuSign Envelope ID: 9F73F5ED-FE40-4DB1-BBAD-AF773010D285
