This includes hosting multiple story times in coordination with
community groups throughout the year, with many being in Spanish, Dari, Karen, and
Mandarin to better serve our entire community. Kidzu also highlights local authors, word
makers, and storytellers by inviting them in for book readings and literacy activities, with a
focus on communities of color. Partnering with Transplanting Traditions and World Relief,
Kidzu also offers scholarship opportunities, free involvement in summer camps and field
trips for refugee children. Most recently, Kidzu has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of
Durham and Orange County to host free robotics programming for the children they serve,
the majority of which come from underrepresented and underserved communities. As a
participant in the federal Museums for All access program (through the Institute of Museums
and Library Services), Kidzu provides monthly free admission and daily reduced access to
those receiving food assistance (SNAP) as a way to reach underserved neighborhoods and
expand access by addressing financial and logistical barriers to visitation. Our website
provides a compilation of online resources to help families talk about racial equity and
inclusion at home. Since opening in 2006, Kidzu has also offered free admission
opportunities to the community at large, such as through free organizational memberships
offered to other groups serving the community, with a focus on children and families in need.
PROGRAM INFORMATION
*Please submit for each program if applying for funding for more than one program.
9.Program Name: Kidzu for All
Program Primary Contact and Title:Melanie Hatz Levinson,Kidzu Chief Creative
Officer
Telephone Number:919-933-1455 E-Mail: levinson@kidzuchildrensmuseum.org
Program informationPage 13 of 31
DocuSign Envelope ID: 9F73F5ED-FE40-4DB1-BBAD-AF773010D285
