Board of Health —Appointment Discussion <br /> 11 The Board considered an appointment to the Board of Health. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 BACKGROUND: The Board of Health makes policy and is charged with protecting and promoting <br /> 14 public health in Orange County. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 The Board of County Commissioners appoints all eleven (11) members with representation from <br /> 17 specific health-related professions and the general public. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 The following individual is recommended for Board consideration: <br /> 20 <br /> NAME SPECIAL TYPE OF EXPIRATION <br /> REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTMENT DATE <br /> TERM <br /> Dr. Davia Dentist Partial Term 06/30/2025 <br /> Nickelson <br /> 21 <br /> 22 If the individual listed above is appointed, no vacancies remain. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Tara May introduced the item. <br /> 25 The Board agreed by consensus on the recommended applicant. <br /> 26 Commissioner Portie-Ascott asked if applicants to the Board of Health talked about <br /> 27 creative ways to serve the community, given that the strategic plan indicated that respondents <br /> 28 wanted more support for community health. <br /> 29 Chair Bedford said that she is on the Board of Health and that there were only 3 applicants <br /> 30 for the dentist position, one of which was not eligible. She said that she was not on the interview <br /> 31 panel. She said that a dentist position is one of the required positions by the state. She said that <br /> 32 the Health department has recently discussed using the mobile dental clinic more, which would <br /> 33 aid in providing more services in the community. <br /> 34 Commissioner Portie-Ascott said she knew one of the applicants and their work in the <br /> 35 community. She said she wondered how the recommendation was made. <br /> 36 Chair Bedford said there was a subcommittee that reviewed the applicants and brought <br /> 37 the recommendation to the Board of Health, but she did not have all the details. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 <br />
