While working as the
hotline supervisor with Orange County Rape Crisis Center, I audited a course on substance use
due to the intersection of trauma and addiction. This knowledge was directly relevant to my work
with trauma survivors, training volunteers to work with trauma survivors, and supporting victims
and survivors as they navigated healthcare, legal, and other service systems.
Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board
Substance use correlates strongly with past experience of trauma. I want to do anything possible
to help victims and survivors of trauma regain control of their own life, which often involves
interactions with legal, healthcare, and social services. In addition to supporting survivors of
trauma, I would like to advocate for systems and services that are responsive to the needs of
survivors of trauma while also supporting harm reduction and improved outcomes from
substance use and abuse.
How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints?
I want to be honest and up front that I may not contribute much diversity to the board. I am a cis-
gender, white woman with stable housing and income. But through my professional and
volunteer experiences, I have worked with numerous individuals experiencing substance use
issues.
Do you have any personal or business interest(s)that could create a conflict of interest
(either real or perceived) if you are appointed to this board?
No
