1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: October 3, 2023 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-h <br /> SUBJECT: Amendments to the Code of Ordinances Section 18-154. — Parks and Facilities <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Attorney; Environment, <br /> Agriculture, Parks and <br /> Recreation <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Resolution James Bryan, 919-245-2319 <br /> Proposed Ordinance Amendments David Stancil, 919-245-2510 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve amendments to the Orange County Code of Ordinances, Section 18- <br /> 154. — Parks and Facilities, to include the updated name of the Soccer.Com Center, as well as <br /> including new County park facilities. <br /> BACKGROUND: The current County Code of Ordinances prohibits concealed or non-concealed <br /> weapons on County recreational facilities. Since the last amendment to Section 18-154 in 2012, <br /> the Eurosport Soccer Center has undergone a name change to the Soccer.Com Center, which <br /> needs to be reflected in the Code of Ordinances. New facilities have also opened, calling for the <br /> addition of Blackwood Farm Park, Hollow Rock Nature Park, and Seven Mile Creek Natural Area <br /> within this section of the Code or Ordinances. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br /> activity, substance abuse and domestic violence. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the attached resolution adopting the proposed amendments to the Code of <br /> Ordinances Section 18-154. — Parks and Facilities. <br />
