o Ability to understand the special physical and emotional problems of clients and to establish <br />and maintain effective working relationships with clients and their families, <br />o Skill in public and interpersonal relations. <br />o Skill in oral and written communication, <br />SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Public Health Nurse Supervisor assigns work in terms of <br />general instructions. Completed work is reviewed for compliance with policies and procedures, <br />and accuracy. <br />GUIDELINES: Guidelines include state and federal laws and regulations; county, department, <br />and division policies and procedures, and nursing protocols. These guidelines are generally <br />clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application, <br />COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied nursing duties. Determining which immunizations <br />are needed for children and at what times combined with reviewing records from foreign <br />countries with different vaccines and different schedules all contribute to the complexity of the <br />work. <br />SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to provide public health nursing cares in <br />clinics and in the community under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse. <br />Successful performance in this position helps ensure that children receive all required <br />immunizations and at the appropriate time. <br />PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, government and human <br />services agency representatives, medical providers, other Health departments, children and <br />parents, and the general public. <br />PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, provide <br />services, resolve problems and motivate, educate, or influence persons. <br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking or <br />stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools and equipment <br />requiring a high degree of dexterity and must distinguish between shades of color, <br />WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office. The employee is <br />exposed to contagious or infectious diseases. The work requires the use of protective devices <br />such as masks or gloves, <br />SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None, <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <br />o Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized <br />training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school <br />education and completion of an approved licensed practical nurse program.
