9 <br /> 19.The Health Department has received additional funding for the following items: <br /> • Addressing Lead: The Health Department has received $12,440 in federal pass- <br /> through grant funding to conduct testing and remediation for lead in water, and <br /> inspection and remediation for lead-based paint and asbestos at all Orange County <br /> public schools and licensed child care facilities. The funding will be used towards the <br /> supplies needed to perform these inspections. <br /> • Communicable Disease Pandemic Recovery: The Health Department has <br /> received a federal pass-through grant for an additional $120,510 to support the <br /> department to return (or exceed) pre-pandemic service delivery for all communicable <br /> diseases, including COVID-19. These funds will be used to expand communicable <br /> disease surveillance, detection, control, and prevention activities to address COVID- <br /> 19 and other communicable disease-related challenges impacted by the COVID-19 <br /> pandemic. It will be used towards operating costs to assist staff in performing their <br /> duties. <br /> • ELC Enhancing Detection: The Health Department has received a federal pass- <br /> through grant for $205,890 to support the COVID-19 pandemic response. Funding <br /> will be used for a temporary part time staff to perform surveillance, case follow-up <br /> and epidemiologic linkage among cases and clusters follow-up in Orange County, as <br /> well as supplement current staff funding, cell phone, mileage, supplies and other <br /> vaccine and tracing supporting activities. <br /> • Management of Chronic Illness in Pregnancy: The Health Department has <br /> received a federal pass-through grant for $4,000 to support the management of <br /> hypertension and diabetes during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. Funds <br /> will be used to purchase blood pressure monitors, digital glucometers, lancets, <br /> and/or glucose strips to be distributed to uninsured maternal health patients for use <br /> outside their scheduled appointments. <br /> This amendment provides for the receipt of these funds in the General Fund for the above <br /> stated purposes. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are <br /> applicable to this item: <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, <br /> gang activity, substance abuse and domestic violence. <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION <br /> AND INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or <br /> color; religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national <br /> origin or ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential <br /> or economic status. <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding <br /> necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for <br /> themselves and their dependents. <br />
