116
A forecast of emission reductions that includes the strategies is shown in Figure 3.
When the strategies are added to the ABAU scenario the County could reduce its 2030
emissions to 993,646 MT CO2 per year, which achieves the target of 50% emission
reduction by that year, against a 2005 baseline. By 2050 the County would emit just
56,991 MT CO2 annually, if the strategies are implemented. The remaining emissions
are due to solid waste, water, and wastewater treatment. The reduction of these
remaining emissions, to fully meet a target of net zero emissions by 2050 is discussed
in the 2023 Plan but is not quantified in the forecast.
ORANGE COUNTY TOP 7 EMISSION REDUCTIONS
1,800,000 1,640,492
1,600,000
1,400,000 1,320,772
1,200,000 1,028,184 955,357
1,000,000 ,-_ _,-«_ _ -,--- -
800,000 993,646
600,000 454,033
400,000 56,991
200,000
O, O N M C In O N 00 P O NM V N 0 I 00 O• O N M of Ln O I, CO O• O
N N N N N N N N N N M M M M M M M M M M -T d' v a v d' v v v v Ln
O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N
TRANSPORTATION&MOBILE SOURCES RESIDENTIAL ENERGY COMMERCIAL ENERGY
INDUSTRIAL ENERGY SOLID WASTE WATER&WASTEWATER
PROCESS&FUGITIVE EMISSIONS --BAU —SCENARIO
FIGURE 3: Orange County Top 7 Emission Reductions
Meeting the Targets
Achieving emission reductions as substantial as those outlined in the 2023 Climate
Action Plan will depend upon fully implementing the strategies of the 2023 Plan. By
tracking these strategies, and regularly updating the GHG inventory, the County can look
towards achieving its goals with a hope of 50% emissions reductions by 2030 and net
zero by 2050.
8 ORANGE COUNTY, NC • APPENDICES
