PROGRAM INFORMATION:
*Please submit for each program if applying for funding for more than one program.
9. Program Name: FRESH Initiative
Program Primary Contact and Title:PORCH-Hillsborough DirectorLinda Leikin
Telephone Number:919-619-7456 E-Mail:Lindaleikin@porchcommuniities.org

10.Please briefly describe the proposed program, including an explanation of how it aligns with the
Town of Chapel Hill and Carrboro’s Results Framework, and Orange County BOCC Goals and Priorities,
and the target population to benefit from the program.(250 words or less)
The Orange County BOCC’s first goal stated is, “Ensure a community network of basic
human services and infrastructure that maintains, protects, and promotes the well-being
of all county residents.” PORCH-Hillsborough’s proposed FRESH Initiative program
addresses that goal head-on. It all starts with food security. Food is the most basic
human service there is, and without food, there is famine - physically, emotionally, and
morally.
A recent PORCH-Hillsborough survey prioritized the need for fresh protein in our food
distributions, with 95% of respondents requesting fresh chicken, pork, or beef. Our
FRESH Initiative is intended to locally source a minimum monthly provision of three
pounds of fresh protein (chicken, pork, beef) to the 400 families (1600 individuals)
served monthly. In doing so, we’re supporting our local farmers with a regular, reliable
income stream so they can sustain and grow their farming businesses.
Our FRESH Initiative leaders work with Orange County farmers to purchase fresh,
affordable, and culturally-appropriate foods to distribute throughout the communities we
serve. Through conversations with partnering farms, we are confident that these
procurement and logistics capabilities can be scaled to handle this supply.
11. Target Population:Please complete the table below with numbers (not percentages) of individuals
served and projected to be served.
Program Target Population Demographics
Projected
2021-2022
Actual
2021-2022
Projected
2022-2023
Projected
2023-2024
Gender
Men 4,200 5,300 7,100 7,100
Women 5,800 6,700 9,100 9,100
DocuSign Envelope ID: 1D36C59C-C145-4DEC-B613-31B2A8CEC6ED
