We want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on being chosen for the
2024 Paramedic Academy. Here are a few things to address with you as you begin your
newest adventure in EMS.

• Please be sure that you have completed all necessary documentation and testing that
DTCC is requiring. You must have all DTCC requirements completed prior to the start
date of August 14th, 2023 to avoid being dropped from the class. You are also expected
to have books and uniform shirts for the first day of class. Please contact Kayla
Corredera-Wells at 919-536-7200 ext. 4207 if you have any questions.
• You will need to sign a FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) form to
allow administration to review your educational progress. Chasidy Kearns will be
sending this form out to you electronically.
• You must sign your paramedic academy contract electronically through Docu-sign. You
may not clock in to class until the contract is valid. (8/26/2024) We will make sure you
are whole in your required hours and will schedule around your classroom requirements.
• During the time you are in the Paramedic Academy at DTCC James Johnson, EMS
Supervisor and FTEP Coordinator, will be your supervisor. The scheduling of your
weekly EMS unit ride times will be handled through James in conjunction with the Shift
Supervisors. It is vital that you communicate with James to ensure that you meet your
weekly work hour requirements.
• We will make every attempt to have you work the same number of scheduled hours as
any other EMS employee on a 24/72 or 12 hour rotating schedule. This means that you
will rotate between a 36 hour workweek and a 48 hour workweek. Excessive overtime
will not be allowed because we want you to focus on your education.
• If you fail to work the minimum of 36 hours per week you will be required to use annual
leave to make up the difference. Leave without pay will not be recommended by the
Emergency Services Director.
• You may be asked when on an EMS unit to staff as a second person. The hours for
which you staff as an EMT (second rider status) is not counted toward the salary payout
for school should there be a breach of contract. Only class, program clinicals and field
internship (third rider trainee status) are counted.
• You are encouraged to come to continuing education unless there is a direct conflict in
your program calendar. The Con-Ed schedule has been established through next June
DocuSign Envelope ID: 274FAE82-232E-4B40-9060-15E996A31402
