Safe Routes to School Grant Program The application for the Safe Routes to School grant program for North Carolina communities is now open. Community organizations have from today until Feb. 6 to apply for Safe Routes to School grant funding.. Those eligible to apply for grants include local governments, regional transportation authorities and plan- ning organizations, state agencies, school districts and schools, nonprofit organizations and tribal govern- ments. Proposals should be designed around a collaborative program that works to reduce the number of bicycle and pedestrian injuries and fatalities, and promotes safety through education, encouragement and evalua- tion. Multimodal Planning Grants 2024 The NCDOT Integrated Mobility Division (IMD) and the Transportation Planning Division created an annu- al matching grant program — the Multimodal Planning Grant Program (MMPG) —to encourage municipali- ties to develop comprehensive bicycle plans and pedestrian plans. This program was initiated in January 2004 and is currently administered through NCDOT-IMD. The Town of Elon is a 2023 recipient for a multimodal network plan, and the City of Graham is a 2023 re- cipient of a pedestrian plan update.
