ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 4, 2004 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~ - f <br />SUBJECT: Notice of Public Hearing on Orange County's 2004 Legislative Agenda <br />DEPARTMENT: County Commissioners <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Commissioner Barry Jacobs <br />Commissioner Steve Halkiotis <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To provide notice of the Board of County Commissioners' plans to hold a public <br />hearing on March 16, 2004 on 1) potential items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative <br />agenda package for the 2004 North Carolina General Assembly Session and 2) for discussion <br />of potential items/projects to request federal funding assistance. <br />BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners is asked to schedule a public hearing <br />on Tuesday, March 16, 2003 at 7:30 p..m. at the Southern Human Services Center on <br />Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The purpose of the public hearing will be to <br />receive public comments on potential items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative agenda <br />package for the 2004 North Carolina General Assembly Session and to discuss potential <br />items/projects for federal funding assistance. <br />The Legislative Issues Task Force (CITE) has been reviewing items for possible inclusion in <br />Orange County's legislative package and also potential items/projects for federal funding <br />assistance.. Information on the proposed items will be provided to the BOCC and others prior to <br />the March 16 meeting.. <br />It should also be noted that the Clerk to the Board has scheduled a joint legislative breakfast for <br />the BOCC and Orange County's legislative delegation for March 29, 2004. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Any funds necessary to provide the public notice are included in the <br />Clerk to the Board's budget far the current year. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The County Manager recommends that the Board direct the Clerk to <br />the Board and the County Manager, on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, publish a notice <br />of the Board's intent to hold a public hearing on March 16, 2004 at 7:30 p.m, at the Southern <br />
