ORANGE COUNTY HOUSING AUTHORITY
ORANGE COUNTY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
HOUSING DEPARTMENT Thursday, May 18th, 2023 at 6:00 PM
Virtual Meeting:
https://orangecountync.zoom.us/i/98126441099
-Could be other events in August we could tie it in with
-Good idea to communicate with Community Health Survey team
-Member Mahood: Public Health component would be important
-disconnect between UNC Health and OC Health Dept.
-Member Murdock-Doherty: involve childcare services as well?
-Member Sykes: try to add our event onto that? Would mean higher
turnout with more diversity
-Also more organizational capacity in place, not starting from scratch
-Member Murdock-Dohert: it depends on what we want even to be about,
whether just HCV-focused, just supporting client with food and a good time, or whether
we want it to be more outreach/educational... "less formal would attract people more,"
might be less intimidating
-Member Sykes: For AHAB mtg, they bring food but keep it in community center,
and then have a presentation, having breakout sessions with groups but then also
allow individual Q&A afterwards... had 20-50 people before
-M-D: Possible to organize it a little more, with large group info but then a
few different stations where people can go to learn about different aspects
-M: Take Back the Night event could be a model, little stations with people
barbecuing, very festive, but there's a ceremonial 15 minutes where they discuss the
purpose of the evening, what it is, what is offered
-Not necessarily tagging along with this, but could be a good model to
use... fun event with informational component that people are not feeling pressured
about using
-Staff will discuss these ideas and formulate firmer plan for next meeting.
7:15 PM Board Vacancies Update
Rosser gives update on board vacancies, 4 applicants for remaining spot,
to be voted on in June
7:20 PM Adjournment
Sykes moves to adjourn, M-D seconds, unanimous
Mailing Address Hillsborough Office Chapel Hill Office
P.O.Box 8181 300 W.Tryon Street 2501 Homestead Road
Hillsborough,NC 27278 Hillsborough,NC 27278 Chapel Hill,NC 27516
Telephone(919)245-2490 • Fax(919)944-8496
