He said it <br /> 2 does not change when children go to middle school and high school, they just do not apply for it <br /> 3 and there is an artificial feeling that the need is not there. He said that teachers will have snacks <br /> 4 the children can take home for their families. He said there are community programs that help <br /> 5 with the need. He said that a child won't learn if they are hungry. <br /> 6 Vice-Chair McKee asked if Chapel Hill is comparable to that. <br /> 7 Dr. Hamlett said they are at 24%. <br /> 8 Vice-Chair McKee asked if it varied from school to school. <br /> 9 Dr. Hamlett said yes. <br /> 10 Chair Bedford asked if there is still universal breakfast at Orange County Schools. <br /> 11 Will Atherton said yes. <br /> 12 Chair Bedford said that means every child can get breakfast at no cost. <br /> 13 Chair Bedford reviewed the meeting schedule for FY24 budget considerations. <br /> 14 Commissioner Hamilton thanked the school boards and staff for their service to children. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 The Board transitioned to a work session as representatives from the school systems <br /> 17 departed. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 2.
