funded in part by Orange County Climate Action Funds. Habitat
plans to continue its partnership with Rotary, Southern Energy
Management and Strata Clean Energy to build on these successes
and will make modifications needed based on knowledge gained
from the pilot projects.
30. If you are proposing to
collaborate with other
organizations on this project, please
briefly describe their relevant
experience to the project and/or
the target population:
Habitat’s partner organizations for the proposed project bring a
wealth of expertise, related experience, and passion. Please see
question 13 for additional background about our three primary
partners on the project: Rotary, Southern Energy Management
and Strata Clean Energy.
31. Please describe any other
relevant expertise or capacity to
carry out the project in your
application:
For 38 years, Habitat has served the residents of Orange County
by building and repairing affordable homes. Our vision is a
community where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat
implements this vision through a commitment to high-quality,
cost-effective, and community-centered building practices. We
are proud of our track record serving residents and hope that it
inspires confidence in Habitat’s ability to maximize an investment
from the Orange County Climate Action Grant to bring the
benefits of renewable energy to low-income homebuyers.

P a g e 1 1 o f 1 5
Criterion 5 - Local Economic Development

32. How many Orange County
residents are employed by your
organization?
12 Habitat employees currently live in Orange County. Habitat
also hires all Triangle-based subcontractors.
33. What percent of project
materials will be purchased
from sources within Orange
County or North Carolina?
Due to the high-tech nature of the materials used for PV
installation, most solar materials come from outside of the
county. As a renewable energy company, Habitat’s partner
Southern Energy Management seeks to ensure that its operations
are as green as possible. Its solar panels are American made.
Habitat’s new home construction materials are sourced from the
local tri-state area. In addition to local volunteer labor, we also
use local subcontractors to complete more skilled work. In 2019,
Habitat’s work generated $2.03 million in economic impact in
Orange County. Habitat seeks to reduce waste wherever possible.
In fiscal year 2019, Habitat’s ReStores diverted 1,200 tons from
the landfill by receiving and reselling 8,113 items from Triangle
residents.
DocuSign Envelope ID: 9E4C108B-9C5C-4E75-9AF1-C4CA2E16CEC5
