also working with Duke Energy to provide EV charging stations
and equipping homes to be charging friendly. The community
features three retention ponds, a walking trail, and a 5+ acre
Resource Conservation District supporting a stream that runs
through a portion of the property. Residents will enjoy easy
proximity to public transportation and Chapel Hill’s fare-free bus
system.

When possible, Habitat builds homes in transit and pedestrian
friendly locations so that buyers can reduce emissions and save
money. This approach directly supports climate and development
strategies of Town of Chapel Hill. The solarized homes in Gattis
Court are in the vibrant Northside community of Chapel Hill,
ideally located for walking, biking, and utilizing public transit. The
homes will be located directly across from Hargraves Community
Center, providing access to basketball courts, a pool, playground
and community center programming. The property is less than
half a mile from Northside Elementary School. There are other
parks, playgrounds and access to the Tanyard Branch paved
walking trail within walking distance of the property. A public
transit stop is located less than 100 yards from the property at the
corner of Mitchell Lane and McDade Street. Many local
businesses, restaurants and grocery stores are located within
walking distance as well as the downtowns of both Chapel Hill and
Carrboro. The homes are located less than one mile from the
University of North Carolina, the top employer in Chapel Hill. It is
less than a twenty-minute walk to UNC Campus and just over one
mile to UNC Hospital’s main campus.

Since 2002, Habitat has certified its houses through the
SystemVision program, administered by Advanced Energy Corp.
This program sets standards for energy efficiency, comfort, and
indoor air quality. By meeting these standards, Habitat houses are
already much greener than the average new house built today.
Without many further modifications, Habitat houses meet the
Bronze Level of the NAHB Research Center. Since 2019, Habitat
Homes have met the Silver Level for NGBS Certification. Please
see attachment “Habitat Energy Efficiency Program” for additional
details about green building features that serve to maximize the
overall emission reductions of the project.

Criterion 3 - Efficient use of Funds

DocuSign Envelope ID: 9E4C108B-9C5C-4E75-9AF1-C4CA2E16CEC5
