14. Who will directly or indirectly <br />benefit from your project? Please <br />be as specific as possible on the <br />characteristics of those who will <br />benefit including, gender, race, age, <br />income level and geographic <br />location. <br /> <br /> <br />While the specific homeowners for the 14 proposed houses have <br />not yet been selected, reasonable projections can be made based <br />on Habitat’s selection criteria and homebuyer demographic <br />information from the past 3+ decades. <br /> <br />Habitat homebuyers must earn between 30% and 80% AMI, with <br />the average Habitat homeowner earning 45% of the AMI. The <br />average Habitat household has four people, with both adults and <br />children benefiting from the proposed project. Habitat partners <br />with people who live or work in Orange County but are priced out <br />of the local housing market. Many applicants are employed in <br />Orange County in roles that help make our community a vibrant <br />place to live— teachers, University workers, and health care <br />providers— yet cannot access the benefits of living here due to <br />the unaffordability of housing. <br /> <br />Habitat strives to attract a diverse pool of homebuyer applicants <br />and to ensure that we are reaching demographics who have been <br />most harmed by a systemic lack of access to housing. Staff <br />conducts marketing outreach to community partners and <br />organizations serving marginalized populations including people <br />of color, women, and people with disabilities. Specific partner <br />organizations include: The Jackson Center, EmPOWERment, CASA, <br />El Centro, Refugee Service Center, NAACP, Refugee Community <br />Partnership, Reinvestment Partners, Centre for Homeownership <br />and Economic Development and Compass Center. <br /> <br />In our most recent pool of approved applicants, 100% were <br />people of color and 87.5% were female heads of households. In Orange County, 67% of white <br />households in Orange County are homebuyers while less than half <br />(44%) of Black households own their home. Homeownership is a <br />critical tool for building wealth. Due to a legacy of systemic racism <br />and discriminatory housing practices, Black Americans continue to <br />face significant barriers to homeownership.
