A FY23 investment of Climate Action Grant funds is especially
critical at this moment, as we hope to use these funds to install
solar panels on the first homes in Weavers Grove in late FY23.
Weavers Grove is the first development of its kind in the nation: a
Habitat-led mixed-income community featuring 101 Habitat homes
and an additional 136 market rate “missing middle” housing units.
With the support of Orange County, we hope to model a powerful
vision of what an energy efficent, affordable mixed-income
community can be. By funding the very first solar powered homes
in the neighborhood, Orange County can help Habitat to leverage
excitement around the project to attract new donors and funders
who are excited about public-private partnerships which
simultaneously promote affordability, equitable access to green
technology, and the health of our environment through green
building. Over the next two years, Climate Action Funds grant can
help to provide the momentum and visibility needed for Habitat to
leverage additional funds in future years to ensure the
sustainability of the program.

P a g e 7 o f 1 5
12. Please select the jurisdiction(s)
where your project is focused and
briefly state how your project aligns
with the relevant Climate Action
Plans (2-4 sentences).

Please name the action items
from each relevant plan that best
align with your proposed project:
☐ Carrboro: https://townofcarrboro.org/928/Community-
Climate Action-Plan
x Chapel Hill:
https://www.sustainchapelhill.org/featured/2020/2/18/clima
te action-and-response-plan
x Orange County: In progress, please instead show alignment
with the Orange County BOCC Goals and Priorities.
Orange County:

Habitat’s work directly addresses the Orange County Board of
County Commissioners (BOCC) Goals and Priorities by helping to
ensure a community network of basic human services and
infrastructure that maintains, protects, and promotes the well-
being of all county residents, and a high quality of life and lifelong
learning that champions diversity and education at all levels.
Habitat’s work also helps to create a balanced, dynamic local
economy promoting diversity, sustainable growth, and enhanced
revenue while embracing community values. The proposed solar
project in particular addresses the County’s goal to create,
preserve, and protect the natural environment for present and
future generations.

The proposed plan also supports the two primary climate change
mitigation goals formalized by the BOCC:
DocuSign Envelope ID: 9E4C108B-9C5C-4E75-9AF1-C4CA2E16CEC5
