Adam Beeman: I understand but in combination with the other fields, as the HYAA representative said, they start at 6, 1428
those folks are going to start rolling in for baseball, it sounds like tennis is going to be happening all day long, I am just 1429
trying to figure out the extra folks after school once school has been let out. 1430
1431
Lyle Overstreet: The trip calculations for the school are based on state wide averages of other, similar schools so it is 1432
baked into the numbers. 1433
1434
Adam Beeman: Okay, I had not heard anything about athletic programs for the school, and I was just curious to know if 1435
they were having athletic programs. 1436
1437
Beth Bronson: Would those parking lots for the upper and lower schools be open to the public after 5? Or would they 1438
remain a private parking lot given that they are on a separate parcel. 1439
1440
Jim Parker: They are going to co-exist together, I’m sure that if the capacity of the parking for the fields is not enough 1441
that sharing parking is a great option but that would be up to the school if they chose to do that. If we can get this 1442
rezoned, then those conversations could happen with those potential owners. 1443
1444
Beth Bronson- My point being that there are 192 spaces by the baseball fields and I didn’t see what the count was for by 1445
the tennis court, I assume it’s similar…. 1446
1447
Jim Parker: A condition that we could set and take with us is that there would be consideration for shared parking…. 1448
1449
Adam Beeman: I had a question about the articulation agreement… 1450
1451
Melissa Poole: I know what this is…there are currently two charter schools in Hillsborough. There is the Expedition 1452
school and there is Eno River Academy. My children went to TEF and once they reached the 8th grade, there is an 1453
articulation agreement for the high school. You can have articulation agreements for charter schools. 1454
1455
Overlapping conversations about seats available for transfer at various schools and articulation agreements. 1456
1457
A letter from Joey Webb was read by a representative from the charter school. 1458
1459
Statler Gilfillen: What are we actually approving tonight? This is about a piece of property with a school on it. It could be 1460
any kind of school on this site. If it is a private school then the developer has rights about who is allowed to go into that 1461
school, right? 1462
1463
Patrick Byker: If for some reason this became a site for Durham Academy, then that private school admission process by 1464
law prohibits discrimination. 1465
1466
Statler Gilfillen: If this were a private school, unlike a charter school then all of the neighbors and immediate property 1467
owners around this property, that school could offer special compensation to them if they had children who wanted to 1468
come there and could walk there. That could be hypothetically possible, right? 1469
1470
Patrick Byker: The down side is they would have to pay. 1471
1472
Statler Gilfillen: Yes but they could also offer a discount to the immediate property owners. 1473
1474
Overlapping conversations 1475
1476
Chris Johnston: We can’t consider that it is a charter school, we can’t consider that it is a public school, all we can 1477
consider is that it is a school, but does that matter for capacity? If the argument is that we are serving capacity for the 1478
local school system and this is a school that potentially pulls from outside the county, is that anything that we can 1479
consider or is that considering a charter school? 1480
1481
Patrick Byker: My understanding is no. 1482
31
