Easley has proclaimed the week of March 14 through <br />20, 2004 as Severe Weather Awareness Week. A statewide tornado drill will be held on March <br />17, 2004. The drill consists of practice watches and warnings being issued by the National <br />Weather Service, and will be broadcast to the public over NOAA weather radio, The purpose of <br />the drill is to heighten residents' awareness and allow their participation by practicing in-place <br />sheltering in safe areas of their homes or offices. All County schools typically exercise their <br />tornado plans during this time. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no significant financial impact to Orange County, <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adapt the proclamation <br />designating the week of March 14 through 20, 2004, as Severe Weather Awareness Week in <br />Orange County, and encourage residents to learn more about severe weather preparedness, <br />
