54
Meadowmont Farms Biological Inventory Report Orange County, N.C.
The oak-hickory forest communities within the PSA do not possess unusually large or
otherwise noteworthy specimen trees. The forests appear to be even-aged, naturally
regenerated hardwood stands. Generally, trees that are located along property boundaries,
or on property corners, will show the highest degree of character and age; however, trees
possessing such characteristics were not observed during the field investigations.
4.0 PROTECTED SPECIES
4.1 Endangered Species Act Protected Species
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) lists the following federally
protected species within the PSA,under the Endangered Species Act(ESA) (Table 2). For
each species, a discussion of the presence or absence of habitat is included below along
with the Biological Conclusion rendered based on survey results in the PSA.
Table 2. In summer, they
will roost in tree foliage, or sometimes in buildings. They are also known to roost
in bridges and culverts. Suitable foraging habitat includes forested areas and along
creeks. Suitable roosting and foraging habitat for tricolored bat is present within the
PSA. Man-made structures, such as bridges or culverts, are not present within the
PSA. Therefore, structure surveys are not necessary for this site. Tricolored bat
was proposed for listing on September 13, 2022. Generally, species become listed
roughly a year following their proposal for listing. When listed, it is anticipated
that this species will be listed statewide. If tree-clearing activities occur prior to
4 January 2023
