Most recently, I served on a volunteer committee for the Chapel Hill <br /> Carrboro City Schools to review their vocational curriculum. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> I am deeply committed to the success of our community college system. As a project coordinator <br /> for a STEM project at Florida A&M, I counseled students who would not have been able to afford <br /> college if they had not been able to complete their general education credits at the community <br /> college. For many students, especially those in rural and under-funded urban high schools, the <br /> community college helps build the study skills and academic independence needed to be <br /> successful in a 4-year school. The community college also serves the needs of adult learners <br /> who need basic academic and technical skills.
