MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH RETREAT <br /> March 11, 2023 <br /> demographics have been taken into account. Ms. Stewart responded by <br /> remarking that the aim is to collect data in diverse rural and suburban/urban <br /> areas. <br /> • Family Success Alliance (FSA) <br /> o The FSA recently hired a new Navigator supervisor, Crystal Kelley. As a result of <br /> a vacant Navigator position, a FSA Supervisor position has been created. <br /> Interviews have concluded and an offer has been made. <br /> o The FSA Quarterly Collaborative is comprised of the partner network, community <br /> council and the advisory council. Some of the focus areas of the Collaborative <br /> include focusing on mental health, food insecurity, transportation, and housing. <br /> Food insecurity and housing are major concerns. As the Emergency Declaration <br /> has ended, many have lost a portion of their food subsidy. Housing is a big issue <br /> as many persons are experiencing evictions and homelessness with many <br /> families sleeping in cars and others engaged in couch surfing. There is a <br /> backlog in processing applications. The application processing time for <br /> emergency housing assistance is 3-4 months in non-emergency situations. The <br /> Housing Department has decreased 50% in staff. Commissioner Bedford <br /> remarked that a large amount of the ARPA dollars have been used for services <br /> for the homeless including to fill some of the vacant positions in the Housing <br /> Department. <br /> • Gateway Village Initiative <br /> o There are ongoing meetings with property owners and managers regarding <br /> structure issues. The Gateway representatives have stated that they cannot <br /> make certain repairs because rent has not being paid. Corey Root, Housing <br /> Director, is going to assist with the rent issue. <br /> o There are many programs such as tailored tutoring and parenting classes <br /> occurring at Gateway Village. <br /> • Upcoming Events <br /> o MedAssist will occur on Friday, March 17th from 9am-2pm. Free OTC <br /> medications will be available. <br /> o Carrboro in Motion will occur on Saturday, March 25th from 11 am-2pm. <br /> o Be Well Community Wellness Event will occur on April 11th from 10am-2pm in the <br /> DSS parking lot. <br /> Mr. Bagby mentioned that OCPYC would be at Stanback Middle School along with <br /> OCHD's Rita Krosner, Tobacco Prevention and Control Coordinator, to speak with the <br /> students about tobacco cessation and prevention. <br /> At 2:34pm, the Board went into closed session to discuss a few follow up items from the health <br /> director's 2022 evaluation. Motion made by Dr. Bruce Baldwin, seconded by Dr. Alison Stuebe <br /> and passed without dissent. <br /> At 2:56pm there was a motion by Dr. Bruce Baldwin to come out of closed session.
