MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH RETREAT <br /> March 11, 2023 <br /> • Vision Statement <br /> Ms. Stewart stated that the Vision Statement should be the guiding beacon. She reiterated <br /> that the Mission Statement is the "what and how"; while, the Vision Statement is the "why". <br /> Dr. Stuebe stated the Vision Statement should foster community cohesion and <br /> connection vs fostering independence (as stated in the NC DHHS Vision Statement). She <br /> added that belonging is an important part of community. <br /> Dr. Crandell stated that the "why" should be the reason that we are trying to protect and <br /> promote. It should answer the question of why we promote. <br /> Dr. Jonnal suggested applying the moral imperative. <br /> Ms. Stewart added that when we all do better, we all do better. <br /> Dr. Jonnal stated that we should protect the right of health and that healthcare is a right. <br /> She also mentioned protecting the right to health. <br /> Mr. Whitaker liked the phrase "living best life". <br /> Dr. Stuebe was fond of the phrase "when each of us thrive, all of us thrive". <br /> Dr. Pickett mentioned that she liked the phrase "right to health", even though, federally, it <br /> isn't recognized. <br /> Dr. Crandell mentioned Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as possible inspiration. <br /> Mr. Whitaker suggested using the word "equitable". This sparked conversation amongst <br /> the Board regarding whether equity needs to be included in the Vision Statement and if so, how. <br /> Ms. Stewart will type up the updated Mission and Vision Statements.
