Orange County Department on Aging <br /> Advisory Board on Aging <br /> Tuesday, April 11, 2023 <br /> Seymour Center Hybrid <br /> MINUTES <br /> In Attendance: Rachel Bearman, Ann Bradford,Jeff Charles, James Harris, Jackie Podger, Saru Salvi, Vibeke <br /> Talley, Sandy Walker, Dick White, Heather Altman, Staff: Anshu Gupta, Beverly Shuford and Janice Tyler <br /> Absent— Excused: Colin Austin and Jerry Gregory <br /> 1. Introductions and Announcements <br /> a. Vibeke Talley served as Chair and led introductions <br /> b. Our condolences go out to County Manager, Bonnie Hammersley, at the loss of her mother <br /> c. NC MeclAssist Free OTC Medication Giveaway event on March 17 at the Passmore Center was <br /> incredibly successful. The event was sponsored by Alliance Health and served 730 people <br /> served (308 online pre-orders and 420 nonregistered served). 22%of participants who <br /> attended were uninsured. 29 volunteers, including Board member, Jackie Podger, reported <br /> that, "The preorders were very successful and that the level of organization was incredible." <br /> 2. Approval of Minutes— March 7, 2023 <br /> a. Minutes were approved as written. <br /> Director's Report <br /> 3. Staff Updates <br /> a. Volunteer Coordinator position <br /> i. Interviews were completed last week and the position was offered to a candidate <br /> yesterday. We will move quickly to bring the new person on board. HR orientation <br /> dictates when person can start based on the orientation schedule.The new hire will <br /> start on May 8. <br /> b. Passing of Mike Komives, Senior Employment Specialist <br /> i. Mike died unexpected this past Monday. He was a vibrant 86 years young and served so <br /> many people. His work has been invaluable. Mike started with OCDOA in 2017 and it is <br /> really unbelievable how many people he served during his time with the department. <br /> did. <br /> ii. Memorial Service—Tue, May 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church <br /> iii. Heather, suggested that we honor him by naming a program or something after Mike. <br /> 4. Employment Services continuation plan <br /> a. We are sending employment calls to the Aging Helpline who will assist callers by directing them <br /> through our resources on the OCDoA Employment webpage. <br /> b. If you know of someone that does this type of work, please let Janice know. The position is a <br /> temporary, part-time position. <br /> 5. TJCOG-AAA Annual Monitoring Visit <br /> a. Staff are preparing for the monitoring visit on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. <br />
