Supported by all three <br /> municipalities, UNC-Chapel Hill, and other civic and arts organizations, Uproar will drive tourism <br /> into the downtown communities during the slow summer months while celebrating the <br /> participating artists and community pride. The festival will take place through downtown Chapel <br /> Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough and will feature 60 outdoor works of public art. A jury panel and <br /> the public will be responsible for selecting winners and cash prizes will be awarded. Uproar is the <br /> first event of its kind in NC, due to its scale and prioritization of accessibility and community <br /> engagement, and is the recipient of the Orange County Arts Commission's first award from the <br /> National Endowment for the Arts. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: Partial funding for Uproar is provided by Article 46 Sales Tax, as well as <br /> occupancy tax through both the Arts Commission and Visitors Bureau. Uproar will have a <br /> significant indirect financial impact to Orange County through visitor spending in local hotels, <br /> restaurants, and businesses. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are applicable <br /> to this item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or color; <br /> religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national origin or ethnic <br /> background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or economic status. <br /> Uproar will be a fully accessible activity for all people to enjoy, including those with limited mobility, <br /> low vision, and limited financial resources. <br />
