Criterion 5 - Local Economic Development <br />Criterion 6 - Amount and Dura/on of Engagement <br />30.If you are proposing to <br />collaborate with other <br />organiza-ons on this project, <br />please briefly describe their <br />relevant experience to the <br />project and/or the target <br />popula-on: <br />Orange County Solid Waste will con-nue to pay for the collec-on <br />and compos-ng of food waste. They have promoted and <br />supported the diversion of food waste from landfills for 21 years. <br />In addi-on to their financial support, they will con-nue to <br />provide technical assistance as needed. <br />Orange County Solid Waste contracts with Brooks Contractors’ <br />Food Waste Program. They have been helping to divert food <br />waste from the landfill since 1999. They provide bins, pick up the <br />collected food waste and turn it into rich compost at their <br />industrial compos-ng site in Goldston, NC. They provide the <br />community a sustainable place to divert their food/organic waste <br />and create a finished product (compost) that brings resilience to <br />the soil and allows it to capture and store more carbon. <br />31.Please describe any other <br />relevant exper-se or capacity <br />to carry out the project in your <br />applica-on: <br />The management staff at the ERFM runs a highly successful <br />Farmers’ Market and is much respected and appreciated by the <br />Market customers for their organiza-onal skills, interpersonal <br />skills, community outreach and knowledge and promo-on of <br />local sustainable agriculture and other sustainability prac-ces <br />(i.e. compos-ng, regenera-ve farming). <br />32.How many Orange County <br />residents are employed by your <br />organiza-on? <br />6 (3 of which are through previous year’s grant funding) <br />33.What percent of project <br />materials will be purchased <br />from sources within Orange <br />County or North Carolina? <br />N/A <br />34.Please describe any other <br />aspect of your project that is <br />relevant to local economic <br />development. <br />The presence of the Community Collec-on Site brings more <br />customers to the ERFM, which in turn increases sales for local <br />farmers and other local vendors.
