She
said that this is an outcome focused service. She said some stay with foster parents, some go
into formalized independent living programs, some live on campus in a dorm, some live with
friends or roommates, or some live with relatives.
Commissioner Portie-Ascott asked if they still have Medicaid after 18.
Crystal Mitchell said Medicaid is in effect until 26.
Commissioner Greene said her understanding is that this population is at risk for
homelessness. She asked what percentage of young people in Orange County are succeeding
in transitioning vs. those who may become homeless.
Crystal Mitchell said while five are in the program, there are ten who are eligible. She said
she does not have exact numbers to give with that, but they have been able to stay in touch with
the ten young people eligible for this program. She said they work with housing to provide FYI
vouchers, and one person is housed with one of those vouchers.
Commissioner Fowler asked if it is full Medicaid until 26.
Crystal Mitchell said yes.
Commissioner Hamilton asked how many people are in the LINKS program.
Crystal Mitchell said there are currently 20 young adults 13-17 and 10 that are 18-21.
Commissioner Hamilton asked if one social worker does both programs.
Crystal Mitchell said yes.
