I also consult with local nonprofits to assist with <br /> grant writing as well as the implementation and management of Federal grants. <br /> Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards: <br /> Board of Equalization and Review (2019,2020) <br /> Boards/Commissions applied for: <br /> Affordable Housing Advisory Board <br /> Please explain how your background, education and experience is relevant to this board <br /> In 2005, 1 moved from New York City to North Carolina to work with a nonprofit involved in prison <br /> reform. I was quickly drawn to the communities of Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and Carrboro and I <br /> moved to Carrboro in 2006. Since then, I've remained in Orange County. In 2012, while working <br /> as the Program Director and Finance Manager of Communities in Schools of Orange County, I <br /> wrote and received a 1.3 million dollar Federal grant to fund drop-out prevention programs at 7 <br /> Orange County middle schools, 2 elementary schools, and 1 high school. Additionally, since <br /> 2009, 1 have been involved in property management, development, and investment. I also have <br /> a strong knowledge of local real estate markets, market trends, property valuations, the County's <br /> GIS site, the LIDO, and other resources, based on my experience buying, selling, and developing <br /> property. Lastly, I have served on the Board of Equalization and Review for three years, hearing <br /> all tax appeals in Orange County. <br /> Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board <br /> Like many members of our community, I've witnessed the damaging effects of the rapid increase <br /> and acceleration in housing costs. Friends and family have been displaced from their <br /> communities. Housing continues to be treated as an investment, a store of value, and a <br /> marketable asset rather than a place where people live, commute to work, raise their family, and <br /> participate in their community. Additionally, rising property taxes have contributed to the <br /> displacement of many members of our community, which is one of the reasons I joined the <br /> Board of Equalization and Review three years ago. I believe that there are strategies that can <br /> address many types of displacement, as well as ones that disincentivize predatory investors by <br />
