Attachment 3 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 March 21, 2023 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, March <br /> 9 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, and Commissioners Amy <br /> 12 Fowler, Sally Greene, Jean Hamilton, Phyllis Portie-Ascott, and Anna Richards <br /> 13 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Vice-Chair Earl McKee <br /> 14 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 15 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 16 Travis Myren, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 17 appropriately below) <br /> 18 <br /> 19 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Chair Bedford dispensed with reading the public charge. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 26 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 27 <br /> 28 There was no one signed up to speak. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 31 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 32 <br /> 33 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 34 Commissioner Fowler said she attended the Cooperative Extension quarterly update <br /> 35 meeting via Zoom on March 14th. She said Tyrone Fisher was promoted to the North Central <br /> 36 Extension Director and Jonathon Smith is the interim Orange County Extension Director. She said <br /> 37 the position is being advertised and also noted that members are needed for the Cooperative <br /> 38 Extension Advisory Council. She announced that Cooperative Extension has $500 community <br /> 39 garden grants that are awarded on a rolling basis and encouraged anyone interested to reach out <br /> 40 to Mart Bumgarner. She said she attended the ABC Board meeting and heard from several <br /> 41 organizations receiving funding from the ABC Board for alcohol and substance abuse awareness, <br /> 42 prevention, education, and treatment. <br /> 43 Commissioner Hamilton thanked the Board and Orange County staff for their support while <br /> 44 she dealt with the loss of her mother. She said she attended the Alliance Health Board of Directors <br /> 45 budget retreat and received an overview of plans for the budget next year with tailored plans. She <br /> 46 said the Schools Safety Task Force meets in two days. <br /> 47 Chair Bedford said she attended the Board of Social Services meeting yesterday, and <br /> 48 recently attended a Board of Health retreat that covered mission, vision, and budget. <br /> 49 Commissioner Greene said she will be attending a GoTriangle meeting tomorrow and has <br /> 50 nothing else to report. <br />
