18
Commissioner Greene asked about project 12, regarding Old NC-86 (SR-1009). She said
she heard that the reason it is not funded is because it needs to go between two destinations,
and the state doesn't consider it meeting the requirements.
Nishith Trivedi said that when it comes to bike improvements, it requires connectivity,
density, and demand. He said that it has to have a destination. He said there is crash data and it
meets some of the criteria, but not all of the requirements. He said Carrboro has a bike-ped plan
to pursue areas south of that area. He said they are continuing to coordinate to find the best ways
to improve areas of density and rural areas.
Commissioner Portie-Ascott asked about the US-70 project and how it was not
recommended when it has more fatalities and property damage that other ones.
Nishith Trivedi said that with SPOT 6 it became a county priority and the MPS pursued a
comprehensive study of that corridor. He said when the study is completed, it will identify specific
projects in that corridor that people will support so they can pursue those for future SPOT cycles.
He said that he hopes to come back to the Board with key recommendations for future SPOTs in
the fall or winter this year. He said the only thing remaining the for US-70 is a potential widening
at Pleasant Green.
Commissioner Fowler asked what the green and red dots mean on the chart.
Nishith Trivedi said the red dots were submitted for scoring and the green are rail projects
and are funded.
Slide #26
Next Step
TIC S u lm-ommittees Roerd a Approve projecs
IF
I! 0
9tores projects
lu
Pr -mil F-0- .
Updates scores Draft STIP
r,
