a. SAPFO results will share timeline of <br />when to build new schools <br />b. Will have a need but no land – need to <br />plan 20-30 years from now <br />3. Is there an opportunity for county CIP support <br />to include planning for capital project staff and <br />construction staff to move the projects forward? <br />(now can only move projects ahead when have <br />capacity) <br />iii. Renee Price – how definitive is planning for 6-10 years <br />actually? <br />1. Likes the idea of a plan <br />2. A lot of maintenance and repair issues, <br />especially in OCS – can’t put a bandaid on all of <br />the issues – when do we construct something <br />new? <br />a. Maintenance costs on Chapel Hill High <br />School will be huge – did we plan for <br />those? <br />i. Gary shared we do plan for that <br />iv. Jean Hamilton – goal for this group is to look at long <br />term without putting extra work on staff (20 years out) <br />1. Need to update facility studies – but cost <br />effectively <br />a. can schools piggy-back on county <br />facility study? <br />v. Rani Dasi - maintenance needs fresh eyes – what is the <br />right level of maintenance to avoid between 3-6% of <br />asset value <br />1. CHCCS=less than 1%, which causes big <br />problems <br />vi. Bonnie Hauser – how do other counties fund ongoing <br />school maintenance? <br />1. In-house vs outsource? <br />2. Can we check with other jurisdictions such as <br />Alamance, Durham, Chatham, Guilford, and <br />Wake? <br />3. Find new ways to do it in OC <br />4. All campuses should be on regular, funded <br />schedule <br />vii. Renee Price – seeing increased costs for projects and <br />supplies – could the purchases be done across both <br />systems to find savings? <br />1. Patrick said this is possible <br />2.
