39 <br /> honor and was the first time this National educational event was held at an <br /> animal shelter. <br /> Describe this Board/Commission's activities/accomplishments in carrying out <br /> BOCC goal(s)/priorities, if applicable. <br /> Three principles and priorities seem noteworthy with respect to the ASAB in calendar <br /> year 2022. These are: <br /> Sustainable Services <br /> • Supported strategic plan for managing pet overpopulation via spay/neuter <br /> initiatives and grand funded programs provided by OCAS. This serves to reduce <br /> the use of euthanasia for population control. <br /> • Supported efforts to advance the humane management of free roaming vats in <br /> Orange County as part of the overall strategic plan. <br /> • Supported efforts to meet or except professional standards within the field of <br /> animal welfare and animal services. <br /> • Support for the plan of OCAS to hire a full-time shelter veterinarian. <br /> Promote an interactive an engaging system of governance that reflects community <br /> values <br /> • Served as a sounding board for stakeholder concerns about animal issues and <br /> animal related policies. <br /> • Supported the annual `Clear the Shelter' adoption event in September 2022. <br /> • Supported Veterinary Assistance and Community Spay/Neuter programs to <br /> provide equitable serves and keep pets with families. <br /> Advisory Board Roles and Responsibilities <br /> • Provided a setting for stakeholder communication about various animal-related <br /> matters. <br /> • Sustained ASAB by meeting and answering questions from candidates for board <br /> vacancies, making recommendations to the BOCC, and conducting orientations <br /> for new members. <br /> • Worked toward effective succession of ASAB members on the Animal Services <br /> Hearing Panel Pool. <br /> • Supported the Pat Sanford Animal Welfare Grant and participated in the <br /> application review panel. <br /> Describe the collaboration relationship(s) this particular board has with other <br /> advisory boards and commissions? <br /> Dr. Lee Pickett is the ASAB Chair and serves on the Orange County Board of Health as <br /> the veterinarian representative from the ASAB. <br />
