2 <br /> The following facilities planning goals were established early in the process: <br /> • Provide customer service in safe, secure and accessible facilities. <br /> • Be good stewards of the County's financial and land resources. <br /> • Where possible, move out of older facilities that have reached the end of their useful life <br /> cycle. <br /> • Consolidate departments and services to gain efficiency. <br /> • Respond to floodplain issues. <br /> The Data Collection phase of work involved gathering and reviewing plans, drawings, previous <br /> studies, including the Facilities Condition Assessment completed in 2021. The assessment <br /> identified that a significant portion of County owned facilities will be nearing the end of their useful <br /> lifespan within the next five to ten years. Some of the buildings nearing the end of their useful life <br /> include: <br /> • Central Recreation Center <br /> • District Attorney Building <br /> • Efland Cheeks Community Center <br /> • EM — Station #1 (will be transitioning to new Waterstone EM facility) <br /> • Old Environment & Agriculture Center (EAC) <br /> • Old Jail <br /> • Southern Human Services Center <br /> • Whitted Building A— Health Department <br /> A copy of the Executive Summary of the Facilities Condition Assessment is included as <br /> Attachment #1. <br /> The Space Planning phase identified an additional 111,891 Departmental Gross Square Feet <br /> (DGSF) of space needed by 2040. This translates into a Gross Square Foot (GSF) need of <br /> 156,732 by the year 2040.
