BACKGROUND: In May 2001,the County purchaser) 193 acres of land near the Intersection of Old 86 and Eubanks Road for a future Chapel Hill Township Park and Educational Campus, coordinating with the Chapel Hill-Carrbpro City Schools for part of the acquisition. Funding in Ne amount of$1.2 million 0 develop phase l ofthe park was approved as part of the November 2001 bond. Since that time, a Board of Commissioners task force has worked to evaluate the she and develop preliminary leas for the co-localed scbool facilities and park. These Ideas were coalesced into a "pre-concept plan;'which the Board reviewed and agreed! to on November 13, 2001. Preliminary planning for the site has been shared with representatives"a Canboro Board of Aldermen and the Chapel Hill-Carl City Schools Board of Education. A draft process for planning the site was initially developed in the late summer of 2001, and reviewed in October and November 2001. A revised draft pmposal is atal based on sohedule changes, comments from the Board and additional information gathered. The draft process outlines a timetable and charge for the creation of a Master Plan. A Master Plan Wcrk Group is proposed,which would operate within guiding principles and a charge set by the Board (contained in the draft process). This Work Group would coordinate with other schools-oriented committees working on related subjects, as noted at the March 26 BOCCISchcol Boards meeting.
