3 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, Representative Price served the people of the 41h Congressional District for a total of <br /> 2 34 years with honor and distinction; and <br /> 3 <br /> 4 WHEREAS, as a member of the US House of Representatives, Representative Price assumed <br /> 5 numerous roles and responsibilities, including: <br /> 6 Member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he also served as: <br /> 7 o Chair of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations <br /> 8 Subcommittee; <br /> 9 o Member of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security and the Subcommittee <br /> 10 on State, Foreign, Operations, and Related Programs; <br /> 11 Member of the House Budget Committee; <br /> 12 Co-Chair of the House Democracy Partnership; and <br /> 13 <br /> 14 WHEREAS, Representative Price earned and received several meritorious awards, including: <br /> 15 ■ Lifetime Champion by the North Carolina Justice Center; <br /> 16 ■ "Legislator of the Year" by the Sierra Club of North Carolina, the North Carolina <br /> 17 Low-Income Housing Coalition, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and <br /> 18 other organizations; and <br /> 19 ■ Good Government Award from Common Cause of North Carolina; and <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, Representative Price advocated for federal programs and initiatives that created <br /> 22 jobs, expanded opportunities, and improved the quality of life for Orange County, the <br /> 23 4th Congressional District, and the state of North Carolina; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 WHEREAS, in his final term in office, Representative Price secured $35.9 Million in Community <br /> 26 Project Funding for the 4th District, including funding for Pine Knolls <br /> 27 EMPOWERment Affordable Community Housing, Chapel Hill Streetscape <br /> 28 Improvements, Chapel Hill Transit, and Hillsborough Water and Sewer; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 WHEREAS, upon his retirement from the House of Representatives on December 31, 2022, <br /> 31 Representative Price leaves a legacy of distinguished service and outstanding <br /> 32 dedication to the residents of the 4th Congressional District; <br /> 33 <br /> 34 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 35 officially commends Representative David Price for his leadership, advocacy, and steadfast <br /> 36 support for Orange County and the North Carolina 4th Congressional District. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall be presented to Representative Price and <br /> 39 spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 This the 17th day of January, 2023. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 Jamezetta Bedford, Chair <br /> 44 Orange County Board of <br /> 45 Commissioners <br /> 46 <br /> 47 A motion was made by Chair Bedford, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to approve <br /> 48 and authorize the Chair to sign the Resolution of Commendation for Representative David Price. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 51 <br />
