2 <br /> 1 Commissioner Hamilton wished everyone a happy new year. She said she is a member <br /> 2 of the Board of Health and announced that there is a vacancy on the board for a licensed dentist. <br /> 3 She said the Capital Needs Work Group will be meeting February 15th. She said they have made <br /> 4 strides in the evaluation team in looking for a consultant to do a facilities assessment of schools. <br /> 5 She said the candidate will be brought before the Board sometime next month. She said she and <br /> 6 Vice Chair McKee are involved with the Schools Safety Task Force and look forward to getting <br /> 7 that going in February. She said she attended the University/Community Martin Luther King, Jr. <br /> 8 banquet and it was wonderful to see the support of the community. <br /> 9 Commissioner Richards wished everyone a Happy New Year. She said she attended the <br /> 10 UNC Schools of Government's training for county commissioners the previous week. She said it <br /> 11 was interesting to hear from newly elected commissioners across the state and hearing how other <br /> 12 counties operate. She said she attended a couple of events this weekend commemorating the <br /> 13 Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. <br /> 14 Vice Chair McKee said he and Chair Bedford will be attending a chair and Vice Chair <br /> 15 training the following week in Raleigh. He said he attended the Southern NAACP Banquet for Dr. <br /> 16 King on Sunday night. He thanked Commissioner Greene for speaking in his place at the Northern <br /> 17 NAACP event on Monday. He said the broadband initiative started two years ago is beginning to <br /> 18 come to fruition. He said Lumos/NorthState has released a map of the first phase and invited <br /> 19 residents to visit the website at orangecountync.gov/broadband. He said for anyone who is unsure <br /> 20 from the map whether they are in the first phase or not can contact the Community Relations <br /> 21 Director Todd McGee at tmcgee orangecountync.gov or 919-245-2302. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Chair Bedford arrived at 7:14 pm. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Vice Chair McKee turned the meeting over to Chair Bedford. <br /> 26 Chair Bedford said she is coming in from the Burlington-Graham MPO meeting. She said <br /> 27 she hopes people were able to enjoy some of the Martin Luther King, Jr. events this past weekend. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br /> 30 a. Resolution of Commendation for Representative David Price <br /> 31 The Board approved a resolution of commendation for Representative David Price. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 BACKGROUND: David Price was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in <br /> 34 1986, and served a total of 34 years as the representative for North Carolina's 4th Congressional <br /> 35 District. During his tenure, Representative Price advocated for issues regarding national security, <br /> 36 investment in education and infrastructure, housing and community development, gun violence <br /> 37 prevention, campaign reform, among many others. Representative Price stepped down from office <br /> 38 on December 31, 2022.
