How would your appointment enhance the diversity of the BOCC? <br /> The BOCC would be enhanced by my diverse business background, including serving <br /> on the Advisory Board for a leading bank in NC. Having started and managed several <br /> human service and real estate businesses that provided the safety net to our vulnerable <br /> residents provides me with a better understanding of what our residents are <br /> experiencing and the urgency of our work. <br /> My diverse experiences include living through the challenges of working and being the <br /> parent of school-age children while lacking reliable broadband access. As a result, our <br /> family had to sell our Orange County farm-based dream home after only nine years. <br /> Furthermore, my experience serving on the Orange County Public Schools' Equity Task <br /> Force provided me broad and deep perspective on the specific challenges our students <br /> and their families face and reinforced how a structured, ongoing approach to addressing <br /> these challenges benefits the learning environment for all students. <br /> Finally, as a volunteer Chaplain journeying with patients and families experiencing <br /> significant health crises, including death, I always created a safe space for them to <br /> reflect and remember,to restore some dignity that may have been stripped away during <br /> the disease process or from being hospitalized. <br /> 4. If you could change one thing about the current county budget, what would that <br /> be? <br /> Considering the significant labor shortage impacting every sector in this county, the <br /> implications for our most vulnerable populations, such as our students and people <br /> needing behavioral health services, suggest that we act quickly.
