RES-2023-001 2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION FOR THE HONORABLE DAVID PRICE <br /> WHEREAS, David Price began his career in public office in 1986 when he won election to the US House <br /> of Representatives, serving North Carolina's 4th Congressional District; and <br /> WHEREAS, Representative Price first served in the House of Representatives from 1986 to 1994 and <br /> again from 1996 to 2022; and <br /> WHEREAS, Representative Price served the people of the 4th Congressional District for a total of 34 <br /> years with honor and distinction; and <br /> WHEREAS, as a member of the US House of Representatives, Representative Price assumed <br /> numerous roles and responsibilities, including: <br /> ■ Member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he also served as: <br /> o Chair of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations <br /> Subcommittee; <br /> o Member of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security and the Subcommittee on <br /> State, Foreign, Operations, and Related Programs; <br /> ■ Member of the House Budget Committee; <br /> ■ Co-Chair of the House Democracy Partnership; and <br /> WHEREAS, Representative Price earned and received several meritorious awards, including: <br /> • Lifetime Champion by the North Carolina Justice Center; <br /> ■ "Legislator of the Year" by the Sierra Club of North Carolina, the North Carolina Low- <br /> Income Housing Coalition, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and other <br /> organizations; and <br /> • Good Government Award from Common Cause of North Carolina; and <br /> WHEREAS, Representative Price advocated for federal programs and initiatives that created jobs, <br /> expanded opportunities, and improved the quality of life for Orange County, the 4th <br /> Congressional District, and the state of North Carolina; and <br /> WHEREAS, in his final term in office, Representative Price secured $35.9 Million in Community Project <br /> Funding for the 4th District, including funding for Pine Knolls EMPOWERment Affordable <br /> Community Housing, Chapel Hill Streetscape Improvements, Chapel Hill Transit, and <br /> Hillsborough Water and Sewer; and <br /> WHEREAS, upon his retirement from the House of Representatives on December 31, 2022, <br /> Representative Price leaves a legacy of distinguished service and outstanding dedication to <br /> the residents of the 4th Congressional District; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners officially <br /> commends Representative David Price for his leadership, advocacy, and steadfast support for Orange <br /> County and the North Carolina 4th Congressional District. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall be presented to Representative Price and spread <br /> upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> This the 17th day of January, 2023. <br /> Jamezetta Bedford, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
