MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> September 21, 2022 <br /> presentation. <br /> • Purpose of the IRG program <br /> ➢ State level tasks include: <br /> o Notifying LHDs of refugees; providing administrative funds for LHDs receiving the <br /> majority of refugees <br /> o Ensuring that health problems of newly arrived refugees are promptly identified <br /> and treated; monitoring health assessments, providing technical assistance and <br /> reporting collected health data on newly arrived refugees to the federal <br /> government <br /> ➢ LHD level tasks include: <br /> o Scheduling and providing health assessments and follow up; arranging for <br /> interpreters <br /> o Checking CDC data to determine if the refugees have been screened <br /> • OCHD partners in refugee <br /> ➢ Meet on a regular basis for planning purposes; partners also notify the LHD when <br /> refugees arrive <br /> ➢ Include Church World Services, Interfaith Refugee Ministry, Piedmont Health <br /> Services, Planned Parenthood of Central NC and UNC School of Dentistry <br /> • Since July 2021, <br /> ➢ There have been 55 refugee arrivals (including 11 parolees from Ukraine) <br /> ➢ There have been 26 refugees helped completing the 1-693 form (Report of Medical <br /> Examination and Vaccination Record) and 4 asylees helped with vaccinations <br /> • Ms. Ekenna attended the North American Refugee Health Conference that occurred <br /> June 23-25t" in Cleveland, OH. It was a great networking opportunity as there were over <br /> 100 attendees. <br /> • Future IRH program goals include: <br /> ➢ Seeking further collaboration with partners; seeking more refugee health screening <br /> and support <br /> ➢ Identifying changemakers that can serve as agents of change and role models in <br /> refugee communities in OC. <br /> The BOH had questions and comments that were addressed by Ms. Ekenna. <br /> VI. Action Items (Non-Consent) <br /> A. OC Groundwater Rules Section IIIB Revised <br /> At the last Board of Health meeting, Victoria Hudson, Environmental Health Director, thoroughly <br /> reviewed the proposed changes to the rules. There was a 10-day public comment period which <br /> resulted in only one comment being received. That comment spoke about another matter, not <br /> the proposed changes to the rules. Ms. Hudson reviewed the proposed changes including <br /> some formatting, followed by a request to the Board to vote on their approval. <br /> The BOH members had comments and questions that were addressed by Ms. Hudson. <br /> Motion to approve and adopt the changes in the revision of the Orange County <br /> Groundwater Rules was made by Dr. Alison Stuebe, seconded by Tony Whitaker, and <br /> carried without dissent. <br /> S:\Managers Working Files\BOH\Agenda&Abstracts\2022 Agenda &Abstracts/ <br /> September Page 2 <br />
