1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: December 13, 2022 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 7-a <br /> SUBJECT: Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Plan Organization Annual Report <br /> DEPARTMENT: Orange County Transportation Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Doug Plachcinski, DCHC MPO Executive <br /> Director, 919-560-4366 <br /> Nishith Trivedi, Transportation Services <br /> Director, 919-245-2007 <br /> PURPOSE: To receive a presentation on Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning <br /> Organization Annual Report. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is <br /> the regional transportation planning agency in North Carolina's western Triangle. In cooperation <br /> with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the MPO is responsible for the <br /> planning and programming of all modes of transportation including highways, public transit, freight, <br /> bicycles, and pedestrians. The MPO's work is regionally based, but community focused. The MPO <br /> formulates and implements plans that will improve life locally and ensure that plans reflect the <br /> expressed needs of its member communities. Orange County is a member community and provided <br /> $35,019 in local match funding to support MPO operations this year. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no immediate financial impact associated with this item. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to this <br /> item: <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br /> activity, substance abuse and domestic violence <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The following Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact is applicable to this item: <br /> • CLEAN OR AVOIDED TRANSPORTATION <br /> Implement programs that monitor and improve local and regional air quality by: 1) promoting <br /> public transportation options; 2) decreasing dependence on single-occupancy vehicles, and <br /> 3) otherwise minimizing the need for travel. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS: The Manager recommends Board receive the information and provide <br /> comments. <br />
