17 <br /> 1 Tara May said that a recent applicant will be considered at a future meeting for the <br /> 2 Cedar Grove Voluntary Agricultural District position. <br /> 3 Chair Price asked for clarification of when the Board would consider voting for the Cedar <br /> 4 Grove position. She indicated it might not happen until after the new year. <br /> 5 Commissioner Bedford asked that the Board consider making an exception and <br /> 6 appointing the applicant for the Cedar Grove position at the next Board meeting. <br /> 7 Commissioner McKee asked Tara May to send the Board the application for the Cedar <br /> 8 Grove position. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 6. Carrboro Board of Adjustment—Appointment Discussion <br /> 11 The Board discussed an appointment to the Carrboro Board of Adjustment. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 BACKGROUND: The Carrboro Board of Adjustment shall hear and decide appeals from any <br /> 14 order, decision, requirement, or interpretation made by the administrator, applications for <br /> 15 special use permits, applications for variances, applications for special exception permits, <br /> 16 questions involving interpretation of the zoning map, including disputed district boundary lines <br /> 17 and lot lines, applications for major subdivisions containing between five and twelve lots, and <br /> 18 any other matters the board is required to act upon by any other town ordinance. <br /> 19 The Board of County Commissioners appoints two (2) members residing in the Extraterritorial <br /> 20 Jurisdiction (ETJ) or the Joint Planning Transition Area. In the absence of applicants from these <br /> 21 areas, the Board of County Commissioners may appoint applicants residing within the Town <br /> 22 Limits of Carrboro. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 The following individual is presented for Board consideration: <br /> NAME POSITION TYPE OF EXPIRATION <br /> DESCRIPTION APPOINTMENT DATE <br /> TERM <br /> Erle Smith BOCC Appointee First Full Term 02/28/2025 <br /> (re-appointment) <br /> 25 <br /> 26 If the individual listed above is appointed, no vacancies remain. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Tara May introduced the item. <br /> 29 The Board agreed by consensus on the recommended applicant. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 7. Commission for the Environment—Appointments Discussion <br /> 32 The Board discussed appointments to the Commission for the Environment. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 BACKGROUND: The Commission for the Environment advises the Board of Commissioners <br /> 35 on matters affecting the environment with particular emphasis on protection. It educates public <br /> 36 and local officials on environmental issues and performs special studies and projects. It also <br /> 37 recommends environmental initiatives and study changes in environmental science and local <br /> 38 and federal regulations. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 The Board of County Commissioners appoints all 15 members, including 10 At-Large members <br /> 41 and 5 members with expertise in specific fields. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 The following individuals are recommended for Board consideration: <br /> NAME POSITION I TYPE OF EXPIRATION <br />
