1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: December 5, 2022 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-j <br /> SUBJECT: Appointments to the Orange County Justice Advisory Council <br /> DEPARTMENT: Criminal Justice Resource <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Attachment 1 — Orange County Justice Caitlin Fenhagen, (919) 245-2303 <br /> Advisory Council — Travis Myren, (919) 245-2308 <br /> Updated Structure and <br /> New Appointees <br /> PURPOSE: To consider confirming a new position and making appointments to the Orange <br /> County Justice Advisory Council. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Board of Commissioners created the Justice Advisory <br /> Council (JAC) at its May 17, 2016 Business meeting. The Council coordinates, informs and <br /> enhances work in the criminal justice system and in the Orange County Criminal Justice Resource <br /> Department. Its formation is aligned with the best practices for the administration of an effective, <br /> innovative and equitable criminal justice system. <br /> The JAC staff is recommending the following position change and appointment: <br /> • Add a new Position 32 for Judicial District Bar Representative. Kellie Mannette, an <br /> experienced defense attorney and member of the Bar is willing to serve in this role, which <br /> is critical to ensuring that information discussed at JAC meetings is shared with the District <br /> Bar. <br /> The JAC staff is also recommending the following changes of personnel in existing positions: <br /> • Position 18: Reentry Advocate Representative — Ben Gear, Local Reentry Council <br /> Coordinator <br /> • Position 20: Orange County Schools (OCS) Representative — Dr. Jessica Dreher, OCS <br /> Director of Student Engagement and Support Services <br /> • Position 28: Town and Campus Partnership Representative — Samantha Luu, Director of <br /> the Campus and Community Coalition <br /> • Position 30: Orange County Office of Equity and Inclusion Director Dr. Shameka Fairbanks <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. <br />
