She said the proclamation and the presentation will be sent to <br /> 2 Jay Dick at Americans for the Arts. <br /> 3 Commissioner Greene asked about the figure of$130 million in the previous proclamation. <br /> 4 She noted that the figure was seven years old. <br /> 5 Katie Murray said that the survey typically takes place every 5 years, but it was delayed <br /> 6 due to the pandemic. She said she will have updated figures next year. She said she feels the <br /> 7 number is still relevant. <br /> 8 Commissioner Richards said she was impressed by the commitment to fill gaps in the arts <br /> 9 in the community, as well as the intentional efforts to expand opportunities to participate in the <br /> 10 arts where people are or where they find themselves. <br /> 11 Chair Price said she appreciated the idea of having a big tip jar to raise money to support <br /> 12 artists during the pandemic. She also appreciated Katie Murray's efforts to participate in WRAL's <br /> 13 Big Night In for the Arts event in conjunction with three other counties. <br /> 14 Katie Murray said the Big Night In for the Arts will be held again on March 11, 2023. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 d. Orange County Arts Commission 2022-23 Annual Grant Recipients <br /> 17 The Board acknowledged local artists and arts organizations receiving 2022-23 Orange County <br /> 18 Arts Grants. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 BACKGROUND: <br /> 21 Orange County Annual Grants Cycle <br /> 22 The Orange County Arts Commission (OCAC)administers two primary grant programs each year. <br /> 23 The Grassroots Arts Program utilizes state funding to provide support for nonprofit organizations <br /> 24 and schools conducting arts programming. The Artist Project Grant utilizes county funding for <br /> 25 artist-led community projects. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 A total of $45,000, typically dispersed to arts agencies through the Outside Agencies Program, <br /> 28 was allocated to the OCAC's annual Grassroots Arts Program. The purpose of this was to ensure <br /> 29 arts agencies were applying for funding through a program specific to the arts, following the best <br /> 30 practices established by the North Carolina Arts Council. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Statistics regarding this year's grant cycle are noted in the chart below. <br /> 33 <br /> TOTAL <br /> NC Arts Council Funding $51,007.00 <br /> Orange County Funding' $73,800.00 <br /> TOTAL AVAILABLE FUNDING $124,807.00 <br /> Total dollar amount requests $154,525 <br /> Total grants awarded 36, or 82% of applications <br /> Total applications received 44 <br /> Total first-time applicants 13, or 30% of applicants <br /> 34 <br /> 35 The OCAC grant review and awards process: <br /> 36 <br /> 37 1. The grant application process is open for two months. Two virtual training sessions took <br /> 38 place and the OCAC director was available for one-on-one meetings. <br /> 39 2. After the due date, the OCAC director conducted an initial compliance and eligibility <br /> 40 review. Applications found noncompliant or outside of the grant requirements are <br /> 41 considered disqualified. <br />
