1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: December 5, 2022 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-g <br /> SUBJECT: Approval of an Amendment to the Orange County Human Relations <br /> Commission's Policies and Procedures Regarding Monthly Meeting Locations <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Manager— Office of <br /> Equity & Inclusion <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> 1) Mark-up Draft Amended Policies and Dr. Shameka Fairbanks, 919-245-2317 <br /> Procedures <br /> 2) Clean Draft Amended Policies and <br /> Procedures <br /> PURPOSE: To approve an amendment to the Orange County Human Relations Commission's <br /> Policies and Procedures to change the location of monthly meetings to alternate between northern <br /> and southern locations in Orange County. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Human Relations Commission's current policy states that <br /> Commission meetings are held monthly at the Animal Services Center on Eubanks Road in <br /> Chapel Hill. The issue of changing the verbiage regarding the meeting location was discussed at <br /> the Commission's October 2022 meeting, and the Commission unanimously voted to send a <br /> request to the BOCC that the Human Relations Commission Policies and Procedures document <br /> be amended to reflect that meeting locations would alternate between southern and northern <br /> Orange County. The day of the month and meeting time remains the same. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or color; <br /> religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national origin or ethnic <br /> background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or economic status. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with this item <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the amendment to <br /> the Human Relations Commission Policies and Procedures regarding the Commission's monthly <br /> meeting locations. <br />
