J. Phipps as Judge of said Court. Mr. Ray commented <br />that he felt the present salaries for these positions were inadequate. The Hoard thanked Mr. Ray for <br />his interest in this matter. <br />Sheriff Knight brought the matter of the purchase of the new automobiles again before the <br />Board. From the bids Ray Motor Company was the lowest Bidder. <br />Upon motion of Commiesioner.Smith, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, <br />the Sheriff was authorized to purchase from Ray Motor Company three (3) F-300 Ford automobiles. <br />Paul Carr, Superintendent of the Orange County Schools, and members of the School Board were <br />present. They presented to Commissioner Cleveland, who was a former school board member, a plaque <br />commemorating his service on their Board. <br />Mr. Carr presented the following report from the Advisory Committee of Central High School: <br />December 3, 1962 <br />Report from the Advisory Committee of Central High School <br />To the Orange County Board of Education <br />The Advisory Committee of. Central High School met at Central High School on <br />December 2, 1962, and wish to make the following recommendation: <br />1. That the 3oard of Education consider building a new elementary <br />school for grades 1-6. <br />2. That the site for the new school be located north of Highway #70. <br />The following sites were suggested: <br />a. The dumping grounds now owned by the town of Hillsboro <br />b. The C. C. Edwards property <br />c. The Johnson & Young place <br />The above places are recommended providing enough land can be purchased to meet <br />the New State Accreditation Standards for an Elementary School. <br />Signed: Roosevelt Warner Chairman <br />The Advisory Committee <br />Mr. Carr reported that opposition had arisen to the proposed site of the Junior High School. <br />Their plans had been to build this new school adjacent to the present site of Central High School. <br />Discussion ensued on this matter. The School Board proposed to build a new elementary school, thus <br />leaving the present plants which could be used as a Junior High School and High School.
