This action followed the recommendations
outlined in a Task Force Report that explored the feasibility of the satellite facility. (This report may also be
viewed on the County's Website:www.orang2.nc.us In the agenda/report section---November 21,2000). The
Task Force Report indicates that Orange County is the highest populated County in North Carolina
without a community college campus. At the time of report publication (November 2000),over 6,500
Orange County residents sought training at other Community Colleges within the area. There is a
significant and on-going need to address accessible and affordable training and educational
opportunities In the County. Underemployment and retraining are challenges that a satellite campus
would address, in providing residents with the tools necessary to get and keep jobs,as well as to
upgrade their skills in preparation for higher paying jobs. Further, a satellite campus within the County
will offer alternatives to pursue educational opportunities outside of the traditional four-year college.
TL....,..1....
